Literacy Project for American Prisons
We disseminate books to prisons throughout the United States to support GED programs and increase literacy. Lack of reading and writing skills prevents individuals from attaining and keeping adequate employment.
School Library Program
In 2008, we are launching a unique and necessary book donation program that will allow us to provide information and resources to teachers and school administrators. We will also provide book donations to school librariers and offer an opportunity for a guest speaker and lecturer to meet with administrators to discuss what can be done to improve literacy rates nationwide.
VA Hospital Book Donations
In support of our veterans, we are donating books to V.A. hospitals and organizations throughout the country. We are focusing on those that provide long-term care to improve the healing process and reach out to those who have served our country.
Children’s Hospital Ward Donations
We are continuing book donations to hospitals throughout the country, especially children's cancer wards. We will be increasing these donations and coordinating the beginning of an LLF library for children's books. |
Book Overrun Program
Our book overrun program offers the opportunity for publishing companies to become collaborators in improving literacy rates by donating books to our programs. We are seeking financial contributions to assist with the shipping and packaging of donated books.
Holiday Gift Book Donation Program
We have responded to natural disasters throughout the country that have ravaged both personal and public book collections. This project has resulted in over 10,000 children's book donations to date. At the Lifetime Literacy Foundation, we believe that the key to success is access to reading material that helps children improve their skills and gain self-esteem. We look forward to expanding this program annually by coordinating our donation efforts with organizations focused on low to middle-income families.
Re-stocking Gulf Coast Libraries
In collaboration with PMA, the Independent Book Publishers Association, we have responded to requests to aide in re-stocking public and academic libraries along the Gulf Coast. Many libraries in this region have needed extensive repairs and many collections have been destroyed.
Online Literacy Program-NEW!
In 2008-2009, we are seeking volunteers and financial donations to assist us in developing the LLF Online Literacy Program. We will need teachers and literacy consultants to assist us by volunteering their time and talents in curriculum development. These programs will be age appropriate with different curriculum and games, etc. to engage youth and adults in the desire for knowledge.
